Venice 2, 3, 4 - 2019
This series of work was inspired by the architecture of Venice and in particular the patterns on ancient, huge carved doors and gateways that dominate the street and waterways. I love the rich and beautiful tapestry of textures and colours created by the dilapidation of many layers of paintwork, and try to capture this in my artwork.
The more I experimented with the development of this project the more abstracted it became. I worked from the reverse side using merino wool, silks and cotton applying them in a painterly way.
